 Martyn is well qualified for the tasks in hand. He went straight from school into an apprenticeship with Sandbanks Yacht Company and progressed through the industry to general foreman at Poole's Southern Ocean Shipyard, becoming self-employed on the firm's closure. After a period abroad, gaining further boat restoration experience in countries like Holland and Spain, he came back to Dorset and bought himself a Tradewind 35 hull to fit out in his spare time and the project took him 3.5 years! On completion, the owner of Tradewind Yachts was so impressed with the finish and interior of Martyn's self-build that he asked him to build them a 30-footer for the Southampton Boat Show. In desperate need of space for the build, he took on the premises at Wimborne, and his firm MB Yachts was launched, since then he has continued to produce and refit the yachts to his demanding high standard. In 2003, due to further expansion Martyn has relocated to a larger factory unit near Blandford.
No two boats are the same by the time they leave the yard. Martyn and his team of craftsmen specialise in unique interiors, with no expense spared. 'We use high quality and exotic timbers for the interior woodwork, and will carry out any special individual requirements the owner might request.
